Kenya Power Charity Cup Announces the Top Four Teams

AFC Leopards FC, Mathare United FC, Gor Mahia FC, and Sofapaka FC have emerged top in the Kenya Power Charity Cup 2014. The four teams were unveiled today when results of the voting were announced.
Last year’s winner Sofapaka FC got 3,636 votes, Gor Mahia FC got 9,804 votes, Mathare United FC raked in 11,348 votes and AFC Leopards, who missed out on last year’s tournament by 10 votes, emerged top with 11,875 votes.
The total number of votes received was 45,684. The first two teams with the highest number of votes will play each other at 9 a.m. and other two will play at 11.30am. The final will be kick-off at 4pm.
The Kenya Power Charity Cup 2014 kicked off 5 weeks ago with the participation of all 16 KPL teams and four teams from the first division. The public was asked to vote for their favourite teams by texting the team’s name to 30300 to secure their place in the top four.
The four teams will compete on 2nd February 2014 at the Nyayo National Stadium in a day long festival, where the winning team will take home Shs.1.000,000 with the runners up raking in Shs.600,000 The third and fourth teams will each take home Shs.300,000 each.
Kenya Power Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Ben Chumo, said proceeds from the football tournament will be used for charitable initiatives including improving social and sports facilities in various parts of the country.
The Kenya Power Charity Cup is organised in conjunction with Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Kenya Premier League (KPL) and Kenya Red Cross. The Charity Cup is being audited by Deloitte.
Funds for the Charity Cup are being generated through the just concluded SMS voting platform which was charged at a premium rate of Shs.10 each, Safaricom & Airtel Paybill accounts and through the sale of tickets to the main event. Tickets will be sold at Kshs. 200 for regular tickets and Kshs. 1,000 for VIP tickets.
Soccer fans who voted will win various prizes which include television decoders, Walka hand held mini television sets, shopping vouchers and Kenya Power Charity Cup Merchandise and tickets. The winners will be announced in the press early next week.
In addition to the full day of engaging soccer there will be a fully fledged entertainment village featuring top acts from Kenya – DJ Joe Mfalme, DJ Creme De La Creme, DJ Kris Darlin, Size 8, Rufftone, Octopizzo and Rabbit. The headline act will East Africa top artist – Chameleone. There will be lots of food and drink for the families.
